Red Pandas - Status
Red Pandas and Giant Pandas are listed as endangered. The main threat to these species is deforestation and other human activities that effect their habitats and food sources. Armed conflicts in the places that Red Pandas inhabit lead to pollution and death of the animals. Although hunting Red Pandas is banned, they are often found in the traps set for deer and other game. Local livestock compete with the Red Panda for food.
Among natural predators are the most dangerous, snow leopards and yellow-necked martens, which take the cubs from the nest. Red Pandas are protected in natural preserves and are raised in captivity, but their numbers are still declining. The future existence of this species is in jeopardy. In captivity, these animals bred well and are kept in many zoos all over the world. They are usually not aggressive and are easy to tame and handle. Everybody can help save these animals by donating money, sponsoring or adopting an animal.
